Pre-Participation Sports Physicals

A sports physical, also known as a pre-participation physical evaluation (PPE), is a crucial step to ensure your child is healthy enough to participate in sports safely. At Advanced Family Care, Dr. Ibrahim performs thorough sports physicals for student-athletes in Lake Mary, DeBary, and the surrounding communities to identify any potential health risks before the season begins.

Is a sports physical the same as an annual physical?

No. A sports physical is focused on assessing health and fitness for participation in a specific sport. An annual physical is a more comprehensive exam of your child’s overall health and development. While we can sometimes perform both at the same visit, they serve different purposes.

Please bring the sports physical form provided by your child’s school or league, with the medical history section already completed. Also, bring your child’s glasses or contacts if they wear them.

A sports physical is typically valid for one year, but some schools or leagues may have different requirements.

Coverage for sports physicals varies by insurance plan. Some plans cover them, while others do not. We offer an affordable self-pay price for sports physicals.

We recommend scheduling your child’s sports physical about 6-8 weeks before the sports season begins. This allows time to address any potential issues that may be found.
