Fast and Effective Lesion Removal

Cryotherapy is a simple, non-invasive procedure that uses extreme cold to destroy abnormal or diseased tissue. At Advanced Family Care, Dr. Magued Ibrahim uses liquid nitrogen to safely and effectively treat a variety of common skin growths for our patients in Lake Mary and DeBary, such as warts and skin tags, with minimal scarring.

Actinic Keratoses (Pre-Cancers)

The Cryotherapy Procedure

The procedure is very quick and is performed during a regular office visit. Dr. Ibrahim will apply the liquid nitrogen to the lesion using a spray device or a cotton-tipped applicator. The application itself only takes a few seconds. You will feel an intense cold and stinging sensation that lasts for a few minutes. Afterward, a blister will form, which will then scab over and fall off, taking the lesion with it.

Is cryotherapy painful?

The procedure causes a brief but intense stinging or burning sensation. The discomfort is temporary and most patients tolerate it very well.

Healing time depends on the size and location of the treated lesion, but it typically takes 1-2 weeks for the scab to fall off.

Cryotherapy generally results in minimal to no scarring, which is one of its main advantages. There may be a small, temporary light or dark spot on the skin that will fade over time.

For simple lesions like skin tags, one treatment is usually sufficient. For more stubborn conditions like warts, several treatments may be required.

When used to treat a medical condition like warts or pre-cancerous actinic keratoses, cryotherapy is typically covered by insurance. When used for purely cosmetic reasons, it may not be.
