FAQs

What are the numbers for high blood pressure?

High blood pressure is generally defined as a reading of 130/80 mmHg or higher. Dr. Ibrahim will determine your personal blood pressure goal based on your overall health.

For some people with mildly elevated blood pressure, lifestyle changes like diet, exercise, and weight loss can be enough to control it. However, many people will also require medication.

The DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) diet is a heart-healthy eating plan that is rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and low in sodium. It has been proven to help lower blood pressure.

Adults should have their blood pressure checked at least once a year. If you have hypertension, you will need more frequent checks, and Dr. Ibrahim may recommend you monitor it at home as well.

There are many different types of blood pressure medications, and they have different side effect profiles. Dr. Ibrahim will work with you to find a medication that is both effective and well-tolerated.
